To be accepted for admission to the homes,
persons must be in need of accommodation and of an age which
indicates that they are unable to maintain their own home.
They must be recommended to the Admissions Committee by a
Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul after
investigation of their circumstances, and must be physically
able to take care of themselves.
Since the homes are
operated by a charitable organization, residents are not
compelled to pay for their keep. Some residents however, do
have families which make contributions towards the cost of
their care.
From the earliest days (1953), the
Franciscan Missionary Sisters have been instrumental in the
administration of the home as a work of mercy, and have done
so on a voluntary basis. In recent times however, it has
become necessary to recruit paid staff to assist with the
administration of the homes.
The homes can currently
provide accommodation for 60 persons.
