What is Scoliosis? Scoliosis is a condition of the spine that is initially painless but can become very dangerous. Scoliosis is essentially a curvature of the spine. This curvature can be due to a structural problem or muscle imbalances termed dysfunctional. How does one get Scoliosis? It is thought that scoliosis is the result of a hereditary problem or an adaptation to some type of trauma, such as the birth process, or an injury such as falling off a bicycle. It usually starts with problems in the lower back. Essentially, two or more consecutive bones of the spine become misaligned due to stress. This stress can be either physical, chemical, or even emotional. Because spinal bones continue to grow well into the early 20s, if left uncorrected scoliosis often worsens. How do I know if I have Scoliosis? Scoliosis is detected by uneven shoulder heights, a loss of structural balance, or a change in posture. The surest way to determine if one has scoliosis is through Chiropractic X-rays. Chiropractors are the best trained health care professionals for diagnosing scoliosis. Early detection and chiropractic correction is important for optimum results. What can happen to me if it is not corrected? Patients who ignore correction of their scoliosis will usually experience premature ageing of their spine termed degenerative arthritis. Severe scoliosis can also cause dangerous structural damage to many of the vital organs such as the lungs and heart. Is it fixable? Unfortunately, the most common
treatment approach has been to wait and see how bad it gets, resorting
to unsightly braces, or eventually surgery if it progresses too far. If
the patient with scoliosis is under the age of 25 and the curvature is
less than thirty degrees, chiropractic care helps the condition significantly.
After the age of 25, Chiropractic care is suggested to prevent the debilitating
effects of scoliosis.
Chiropractic is the most effective, non-invasive form of care for correction of scoliosis. Don't wait until it is too late. Have your family's spines checked by your Chiropractor today!
